KMVT
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIESLots of reasons. If you want to feel connected with your community, KMVT is the place to be. As a volunteer, you can crew on live studio shows, operate camera on remote productions for sports and other events, or just help out in the office. KMVT relies heavily on its volunteers for production. Volunteers get the satisfaction of knowing they help to create a more connected community. Through KMVT, disenfranchised and underrepresented groups and individuals have a chance to be heard, and to exercise their First Amendment Rights to free speech. It is a good feeling to contribute to this kind of grassroots community effort.
KMVT charges producers minimal user fees for studio time and equipment use. Producers who volunteer on staff productions or office work receive credit towards their accounts. Each hour of volunteering is worth $5.00 towards the producer's account. Volunteering is also a great way to meet other volunteers who may want to help you on your own show.
Production volunteers on staff and access (volunteer-produced) shows need to complete the studio production workshop. For volunteers with prior television production experience, we offer reorientations in which the Training Coordinator explains and demonstrates KMVT's equipment and procedures. The cost of the reorientation is $20, and it usually takes about an hour. At the discretion of the Training Coordinator, completion of the reorientation is equal to that of the 5-week studio production course.
KMVT is welcomes interns. Students have been pleased with the variety of experience and duties they get while interning at KMVT. Since we are a small station with no departmental hierarchy, there are a number of areas in which to work. These include editing, on-camera reporting, news writing, ENG (Remote Camcorder coverage), and computer graphics work. If you are a student, or if you just want to learn about television and have some previous experience, send an email to our intern coordinator.
